Josh Paul worked on export controls at the State Department – now he co-leads A New Policy, an organization dedicated to shifting U.S. policy and politics towards Palestine and Israel. In today’s conversation we’ll focus in on the tech piece of this: How U.S. technology has enabled Israel’s war crimes in Gaza, the growing role of Israeli surveillance technology and tech sector influence in the U.S., and what a new proposal currently before Congress to further integrate the U.S. and Israeli defense tech sectors means for the future of the relationship.

If we prevail, we move one step closer to holding Palm Beach County accountable and ensuring hundreds of millions of tax dollars are never again weaponized for political agendas to support Israel in the midst of a genocide, jeopardizing taxpayer money. US tech sector starts commercially generally, moves towards military
Israeli tech sector generally starts from military, 8200, etc. and then moves towards commercialization
There is a worrying confluence between US and Israeli tech sectors
Cloud services are playing a bigger role in tech military industrial complex
IDF is using cloud services from big cloud providers
Major US defence companies’ products are used all over the world by Israel – Iran, Lebanon, Syria and Palestine
Israel is known to use stolen American stolen tech
There is IP theft as well
And Isareli spyware used to target American citizens and officials
China is Military and Civil fusion – there is no clear line between the two – same applies to Israel – and Israel invented the concept of military civil fusion
US public opionion is transforming rapidly
The blank cheque from Israel may be coming to a close
How does Israel continue defence cooperation when it’s unpopular
National Defence Authorization Act – four things – integrate Israeli tech into us military, several collaboration points, incentivize co-production, create an executive agent to make that happen
This would open doors for Israel to US military
This would give Israel significant leverage over US – apply pressure to US and politicians
There is a lot of pushback but are also rooted deeply in these acts – and the longer it stays in place, the harder it will be to root out
There is a race against “political clock”
