On May 15, 2024, a group of passionate individuals gathered for a meeting to tackle an issue close to their hearts: supporting Palestine. The meeting, brimming with ideas and energy, focused on devising strategic initiatives to propel the Palestine cause forward. This post aims to unpack the discussions, insights, and conclusions from this meeting.

A Plea for Support

The meeting kicked off with Karina introducing the upcoming People’s Conference for Palestine <a href=’link”>https://peoplesconferenceforpalestine.org/’>link, scheduled to be held on May 24-26. This event is seen as a crucial platform to rally support for Palestine, and attendees were encouraged to contribute and participate.

Further, they were asked to join the #ActionforPalestine movement and help Canadian students financially. Nida, another member of the group, highlighted this initiative and the option to contribute via E-transfer to info@canadians4palestine.com.

Dr. Musallam made a heartfelt call to support the ‘Dignity for Palestine Campaign’ and suggested forming groups to help with fundraising. You can contribute to this cause through its <a href=’GoFundMe”>https://www.gofundme.com/f/dignity-for-palestinians’>GoFundMe page.

Shared Identity and Genocide: A Critical Analysis

The meeting delved into the nitty-gritty of the issue, discussing the aspects of shared identity and the ongoing conflict in Palestine. Bent Flyvbjerg and Dan Gardner’s book, ‘How Big Things Get Done’, was referenced to understand the dynamics of shared identity. Interestingly, Raj brought attention to an article by Aryeh Neier, founder of Human Rights Watch, questioning whether Israel is committing genocide. This sparked a healthy debate among the attendees.

Building A Database: The Potential and Challenges

A key point of discussion was the need for a unified database of Palestine supporters. This database could provide much-needed quantifiable data on the number of Palestine supporters, which would be invaluable for planning strategic initiatives. However, members highlighted the challenges of maintaining such a database, including legal considerations, the need for political support, and the prioritization of funding.

Moving Forward: Next Steps and Potential Allies

Despite the challenges, the group remained optimistic and discussed potential allies, like Jeffrey Sachs, who could help their cause. The discussion also considered the potential of tech-based solutions, with Taysir mentioning the possibility of collaborating with an IT manager in Jordan. The group agreed that every planned initiative should have a clear objective and result. They also highlighted the importance of making this initiative bigger than an individual endeavor, with Taysir expressing his desire to take the idea beyond himself.

A Call to Action

The meeting concluded with a call to action, encouraging everyone to share the proposal, seek political support, and stay engaged in the cause. A simple website was suggested to start with, where anyone could register and be given honorary citizenship. The group emphasized the need to make this initiative cool and convert it into a voting factor, making it a conversion tool between people and politics.

Every participant was also encouraged to take Dr. Raj’s survey and share it with at least five people to aid the cause.
